Sounds as if you've learned a universal truth in working on motorcycles. If you think the job will require x number of hours, y number of new parts, and z pairs of hands to complete task a one time, reality is more like x^3+y^2+3z=2a+b+c where b and c are tasks you didn't think you'd have to do to complete task a, but turns out those were required too. :)

You may have already seen this, if so i apologize for not helping at all!

http://maps.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=41136

It looks life if you host the kml file, you could at least post a link direct to a google maps which loads up that track. I don't know if this means it's possible to embed that somehow in wordpress?

Oh, no! Jai, you've gone and done it. You're the first(!) to comment on this blog. Not I'm gonna hafta keep it updated! : )

Thanks for thinking of Sports Tracker! I used the newest version of Sports Tracker on my N97 to track three rides this weekend. I can export the files to KML (Google Earth) and the routes come across fine. But from there, I can't figure out how to get a nice embeddable Google Map out of it. I suppose I'll just upload the KML files, and interested parties can download them if they wanna see 'em.

Eventually, my goal is to be able to easily upload the routes in a pretty map, one map per ride, per blog post. As an added bonus, I'd like to have the pictures that I take on rides embedded in the map in the correct place/time (geocoded).

I was using My Tracks on my Android G1, but the hardware fried for some reason. My Tracks is better than Sports Tracker, just because it can export a route directly into Google Maps, which can then be embedded. I'm pretty sure the photos also come across geocoded. One click to upload the maps to "My Maps under Google Maps is really easy, like I like it.

This blog is an experiment to get my geotagged photos, maps, and other random motorcycle crap on the net so peeps can find it. And just to play with Wordpress 3.0. Thanks for stopping by!

re talking with tnkgrl podcast: you should use the new sports tracker on a nokia. The new UI looks awesome, and most importantly you can use it to export your log as kml, gpx, xml or csv.

Personally, i record a track on my n97 while i'm out shooting on my canon s90. Then i use a plugin for adobe lightroom that compares the shot time in the exif data to the gpx log i created and BAM. Geotagged photos. BAM.

I'm psyched to hear about more applications like this...
